Abstract

1453636 Wire locating members for connectors AMP Inc 28 Jan 1974 [14 Feb 1973] 03774/74 Addition to 1386277 Heading B3A A wire locating member 38, Fig. 1, for the apparatus as disclosed in Specification 1,386,277 comprises a member releasably mounted on a support arm 128 pivotally connected to a conhector holder, a central opening 45, Fig. 3, in the member being aligned with a corresponding opening in the support arm through which the member travels during wire insertion. The member comprises a row of teeth 52, 58 on each side of the opening with adjacent teeth in each row defining between them wire receiving channels 53 opposed to corresponding channels 57 in the other row. Integral flanges 60, 62 depend from beneath the member for releasable attachment to the arms 128, 128<SP>1</SP> at recesses 134. The bottoms of channels 53, 58 slope downwardly from one side of face 46 to the other for ease of wire insertion. Aligned holes 64 are provided for accommodating a locking dowel 82, Figure, when mounting the member on a jig 36 for wire insertion prior to mounting on the apparatus. Wires 2 are inserted into members 38, 38<SP>1</SP> from a cable 4 which is clamped with a clamp 90. A modified form of jig, Fig. 7 (not shown), provides for the inserting of wires into three sets of members 38, 38<SP>1</SP>, (38a), (38a<SP>1</SP>), (38b), (386<SP>1</SP>) prior to the placing of the members on a modified insertion apparatus which does not have a shearing device.
