Abstract

1291713 Packaging pellets KERR-McGEE CORP 11 Dec 1969 [11 Dec 1968] 60468/69 Heading B8C A protective encasement for enclosing, supporting and providing cushioned edge protection for a sharp-edged configuration pellet 11 comprises a pair of sheets 18, 19, of a deformable material having preformed pockets hereon and being joined together peripherally of the pockets with the pockets in opposed relationship defining an enclosure 13 having a main body 20, end wall and bubble contour portions 28, 30 and 32, 33, the main body portion having a configuration conforming to the size and shape of the pellet 11 over a substantial portion of its exterior side wall surface for spaced relationship frame pellet edge portions, the end wall portion of the enclosure providing for pellet end wall contact in spaced relationship from pellet edge portions, the main body and end wal portions of the enclosure being joined by the bubble contour protruding outwardly from the main body portion 20 of the enclosure and defining cavities 34, 35 below the enclosure which prevent contact between edge portions of the pellet and the enclosure. As shown, the end walls 32, 33, are formed with indentures 22-28 which bear on the end wall of an encased pellet. An additional bubble contour portion 38 is formed intermediate the end walls 28, 30. Rows of enclosures 13 are provided on longitudinally continuous strips which are joined together to form a continuous sealed belt of enclosures which are subdivided by double seals 37 to form sections 40, 41. Spot welds may be provided intermediate pellet enclosures. In another arrangement, Figs. 7 and 8 (not shown), a continuous bubble border (96) is formed around each strip within the edge seals hereof to facilitate unpackaging of pellets.
