Abstract

1291439 Welding by fusion UNITED KINGDOM ATOMIC ENERGY AUTHORITY 8 April 1970 [24 March 1969] 15408/69 Heading B3R [Also in Division H1] Electron beam welding apparatus includes a target on which the beam is parked between operations, at a lower power than welding power. The target, which can be adjacent a welding station, may be of a refractory metal such as tungsten or niobium. Means are provided for deflecting the beam on to the target after welding, and means are provided for decreasing the beam power from 450 watts used for welding to 75 watts during parking. The beam is brought up to full power on the target before being deflected back to the welding station.
