Abstract

129,124. Barr & Stroud, and French, J. W. July 10, 1918. Order apparatus.-Mechanism for the elastic transmission of motion, applicable to transmission gear for order telegraphs, &c., comprises a spring accumulator to which motion is applied at one end of the spring when the driving-part rotates in one direction and at the other end of the spring and delivered at the first end when the direction of drive is reversed; an escapement, air-fly, or the like may be provided for controlling the following speed of the driven member. The driving and driven members F, G, Fig. 1, carry arms F', G<1> so arranged with respect to stops D, E on torque parts B, C secured respectively to the outer and inner end of a volute spring A that during forward rotation of the member F the drive takes place through the parts D, B, A, C, E, G and when the member F is reversed the drive through the spring is from the part C to the part B. Two co-axial springs rigidly connected together at their inner ends may be used. The spring A, Fig. 4, may be connected by toothed gearing B<1>, B<2> and C<1>, C<2> with the torque parts B<3>, C<3> against which bear the arms F<1>, G', and, in order to permit more than one free revolution of the member F before the part G follows, the stops D, D<1>, E, E' slide radially in the parts B<3>, C<3> and engage spiral grooves F<2>, G<2> in the members F, G and the arm F<1> is arranged to clear the arms G<1> so that, as the parts F, D or F, E rotate together, the parts E, D<1> or D, E<1> are temporarily withdrawn and are restored to their original positions during the movement of the member G. In a modification adapted to allow more than one free rotation of the member F, the members F, G are connected to the parts B<3>, C<3> by series of dish provided with pins and slots which produce drive after allowing a certain amount of lost motion. A counting-mechanism is shown in which the driving-shaft drives the counter directly through gearing and drives a commutator, of the type described in Specification 4422/06, for electrically transmitting duplicate counting-indications to a distance through mechanism of the kind shown in Fig. 4, an air-fly geared to the driven shaft being provided.
