Abstract
1290942 Papermaking ALLMANNA SVENSKA ELEKTRISKA AB 17 Feb 1970 [18 Feb 1969] 7489/70 Heading D2A [Also in Division G1] A method of preparing the stock fed to a paper machine in which stock is pumped by a mixing pump to a headbox from which stock is delivered to a foraminous support, comprises pumping pulp by means of a separate pulp pump through an orifice arranged in the flow path of the pulp to a mixing point for mixing the pulp with water to form the stock, measuring the pressure drop across the orifice, supplying to a comparison device a signal corresponding to the measured pressure drop and a reference signal corresponding to a desired pressure drop, to produce an error signal which is used to control the rate of pulp flow, the reference signal being dependant on the speed of the web at or near the downstream end of the machine. As shown, thick stock is fed via pump 17 in line 23 through orifice 18, e.g. a venturi tube, and a signal corresponding to the pressure drop fed in line 20 to control device 19. The speed of the paper web is measured at 37, the output squared, and fed via potentiometer 29 to control means 19 which alters pulp flow, either by adjusting pump 17 or by altering adjustable orifice 22. Wire speed and headbox pressure may be sensed at 25 and 32, respectively, and the signal used to control the mixing pump 13.
