Abstract

1290939 Sponge iron GOSUDARSTVENNY SOJUZNY INSTITUT PO PROEKTIROVA-NIJU METALLURGICHESKIKH ZAVODOV 25 Nov 1970 56118/70 Heading C7D Sponge iron is produced by passing a hot oxidizing gas through iron ore, reducing 60-80 wt per cent of the ore with hot carbon containing gas to metal further reducing with hot H 2 , then cooling with cold H 2 . The reducing gases may be blown through alternately from above and below. The carbon containing gas may be converted natural gas or synthesis gas. The ore may be in the form of pellets or concentrate.
