Abstract
1290156 Silver halide emulsions EASTMAN KODAK CO 30 Oct 1969 [30 Oct 1968] 53147/69 Heading G2C [Also in Division G1] A method of controlling the fog level in a liquid silver halide emulsion comprises testing the fog level by optical density measurements in the infrared on a sample of the emulsion to which developer solution has been added and by comparing the rate of increase of the density with time with a standard rate, and temporarily raising or lowering the pH value of the emulsion for a period to produce optimum fog level. An apparatus for carrying out the above method comprises a temperature controlled mixing chamber 24 into which metered amounts of emulsion and developer are fed by sampler 12 and hose 38 respectively. A pump 28 circulates the liquid through narrow passage 30 between transparent windows 48, 50 to attenuate the infrared radiation from source 40 falling on photo-multiplier 46. A density-time curve is plotted and compared with a "standard" curve, Fig. 3 (not shown) to determine whether the fog level is at its optimum value.
