1290147 Carrying handles for batteries ELECTRIC POWER STORAGE Ltd 3 Feb 1970 [4 Feb 1969] 5847/69 Heading H1B A storage battery has a retractable lifting handle 13 which includes at least one vertical stem 14 received, so as to be longitudinally slidable, in a slot 20 in a laterally projecting lug 19, and a supporting surface 18 engaging a ledge 31, the lug 19 and ledge 31 being afforded by the battery casing and/or lid, in which the entry 22 to the slot is in the form of a narrow neck and the stem is of a resilient plastics material and is compressible to spring through the neck. into the enlarged inner portion of the slot 20. As shown the lug 19 is formed on the lid and the ledge 31 is provided by a flange on the casing of the battery. The stem 14 of the handle is made, for example, of polypropylene, is of U-section and may be notched 16 to facilitate compression so that it can pass through neck 22 and spring open in the larger portion of slot 20.
