Abstract

1289275 Seaming &c W R GRACE & CO 23 April 1971 [13 May 1970 7 Sept 1970] 23264/70 and 42786/70 Heading B5K [Also in Division B8] A machine for packaging triangular cut sandwiches 10, 11, 12, 13 in polypropylene sheet comprises a base-plate 1 with two right angled triangular arrays 3a, 3b which co-operate with similar heat-sealing elements 7a, 7b, 8a, 8b, 9a, 9b of a sealing plate 4 which is raised and lowered about pivot 15 by means of toggle arms 17, 19 and lever 21, the sandwiches being placed between the halves of a longitudinally folded web 2 of the sheet which is then sealed by raising and lowering plate 4. Element 9b both welds and severs the web to form the leading edge of following package. Pivot 20 of the toggle linkage is vertically adjustable to allow for changes in the sealing position of plate 1. Elements 6a, 6b, 6c, 6d are raised to eject the sealed packages. In another embodiment, the sealing plate is lifted higher above the base-plate attaching pivot 15 to a collar sliding between stops on two vertical columns. The web is laterally guided by an adjustable abutment member. The packages may be shrunk after sealing.
