Abstract
1289185 Opal glass CORNING GLASS WORKS 29 Oct 1970 [5 Nov 1969 19 Aug 1970] 51386/70 Heading C1M A spontaneous opal glass comprises in percentage by weight SiO 2 60-80 ; Al 2 O 3 1À5-12; Ti 2 O 0À5-5; Na 2 O and/or K 2 O 2-18; and F 2-6. The glass may also contain up to 10% but preferably 2-8% B 2 O 3 The glass should not contain a total of more than 5% of MgO, SrO, BaO, TiO 2 and ZrO 2 or more than 2% of a colourant, e.g. CoO, NiO, MnO 2 , V 2 O 5 and Fe 2 O 3 . The glass may also contain up to 5% of PbO and P 2 O 5 . Examples are given of glasses having softening points in ‹ C. of 689, 701, 723, 689, 791; annealing points in ‹ C. of 533, 540, 542, 539, 527, 573; strain points in ‹ C. of 496, 504, 504, 506, 487, 534; and coefficients of expansion in ‹ C.<SP>-1</SP> Î 10<SP>-7</SP> of 67À5. 66À6, 66À8, 68À0, 59À6, 66À9, 87À3 and 71À4.
