Abstract

1289102 Urine collector ERIC ORMEROD Ltd 9 Oct 1969 [11 Nov 1968] 53233/68 Heading A5R An incontinence device comprises a collecting bag 10 having an inlet neck 12 with a one way valve 13 to allow fluid to flow into the bag, the valve 13 comprising a flat tube of fluid tight material with an outlet 21 and one side 17 extended, the extension 19 being folded back to form a pocket for a weight (20) so that the pocket and weight may overlie outlet 21 to close the valve and prevent back flow of the fluid. The device may have a closable outlet 11 and a plastics tube 14 (see also Fig. 4, not shown) for insertion in the vaginal passage and to cover the urethra, the tube 14 having a tubular portion 15 and an integral arcuate tapering wall 16 with a ring 16A to accommodate a tampon. In an embodiment the tube 14 is replaced by a rigid plastics saddle member which overlies the vagina having an apron extending under the abdomen between the legs and partly up the front of the abdomen, and the member may include a part which enters the vagina. For male use, the tube 14 is replaced by a plastics tube to receive the penis, which communicates with the collecting bag through the one way valve. Alternatively the receiving bag is an extension of the one way valve. Straps 22 and buttons 23 for securing leg straps are provided for securing the bag on the body and the inlet neck of the bag may be padded with foamed plastics material.
