Abstract

128,906. B÷hn, I. June 22, 1918, [Concention date]. Tunnelling by boring.-A tunnelling - machine com - prises a central shaft 9 rotated directly or indirectly by a motor 16 and carrying a crank 6 which, through rods 5, oscillates bell-cranks or T-levers 4 and thereby reciprocates drills 1 which are connected to brackets 3 by links 2. A sleeve 13 protects the mechanism from falling rocks &c. The brackets 3, levers 4, &c. are carried by a disk 12 which is slowly rotated by the motor through gearing 14, 15. The machine is advanced by driving the carrying wheels from the motor or by means of a screw supported on a cross beam in the tunnel. In a modification, the central shaft 9 drives a transverse shaft through bevel gearing, the latter shaft being provided with cranks to reciprocate the drills. Specification 115,647 is referred to.
