Abstract
1288905 6 - Deoxy - 5 - oxytetracycline - 5- esters SOC FARMACEUTICI ITALIA 7 June 1971 [12 June 1970] 19212/71 Heading C2A The invention comprises 6-deoxy-5-oxytetracycline-5-esters of the Formula III where R is a radical of a mono- or dicarboxylic acid having from 1 to 10 carbon atoms in the molecule, and X is hydrogen, chlorine or bromine, and addition salts thereof with non- toxic, pharmaceutically acceptable acids. A process for the preparation of compounds of Formula III comprises the reduction of a 6- demethyl - 6 - deoxy - 6 - methylene - 5 - acyloxytetracycline with hydrogen in the presence of a catalyst of the platinum group of metals. A further process for the preparation of compounds of Formula III comprises the direct acylation of the corresponding compound having a free hydroxy group in the 5-position. Pharmaceutical compositions containing one or more compounds according to Formula III as active ingredients may be prepared.
