Abstract
1288885 Induction heating W C HELLER JNR 22 Jan 1970 3074/70 Heading H5H Plastics sheets 26, 28 are heat sealed by inducing heating currents in a susceptor 30, formed by a layer of iron oxide particles, by means of an induction heating apparatus which comprises a pair of parallel conductors 16, 18 joined together at one end by a conductor 21 and connected at the other end to a high frequency (e.g. 4 megacycles) source 22, conductor 18 partially surrounding conductor 16 and, in operation, carrying current in the opposite direction to conductor 16 so that a high frequency magnetic field is formed along the exposed surface of conductor 16. Conductors 16, 18 are made of copper and are provided with cooling passages. The space between conductors 16 and 18 may be left open for air cooling or may be filled with structural insulating non-magnetic material. While the conductors shown are circular and part circular, they may alternatively be based on a triangular or rectangular shape.
