Abstract
1288536 Coatings MITSUBISHI JUKOGYO KK 14 Nov 1969 31996/71 Addition to 1287469 Heading B2E [Also in Division C3] The adhesion between a first coating layer containing unreacted epoxy and/or hydroxyl groups and a covering composition also containing an added epoxy and/or hydroxyl group comprises contacting the first coating layer with a priming composition comprising, incorporated in a solvent capable of penetrating the first coating layer, from 1 to 50% on the priming composition of a mixture of a titanium or aluminium alkoxide, or a chelate compound of these and a compound containing one or more epoxy groups, in a molar ratio of 1.5:1 to 5:1, the solvent being inert to unreacted epoxy and/hydroxyl groups and applying to the thus contacted layer a covering composition of a second coating which is coupled to the first coating by reaction between the reactive groups present in the covering composition and unreacted groups in the primed first coating layer which are derived from the mixture. The epoxy group-containing a priming composition may be epoxy resin of molecular weight of 900 to 1000, an epoxidised beanoil, an olefine oxide, an aryl glycidyl ether or an alkyl glycidyl ether. Suitable titanium and aluminium compounds are listed. The first film or coating may be of an epoxy resin paint, a hydroxyl-containing unsaturated polyester resin paint or a tar epoxy paint, a second film coating may be an epoxy resin paint, a tar epoxy paint, an hydroxyl-containing unsaturated polyester resin paint or an hydroxyl-containing alkyd resin paint.
