Abstract
1288402 Controlling mixing by temperature and power consumption GEORG FISCHER AG 30 Sept 1969 [7 Oct 1968] 48091/69 Heading B1C [Also in Division G3] The moisture content of granular material, e.g. moulding sand, is controlled in a sand processing arrangement as shown by automatic adjustment of a valve 5 to control the amount of water added to sand in a mixing drum 1 via nozzle groups 2, 3, 4, and in dependence upon the temperature of sand being fed to the drum on a conveyor 13 and upon the mechanical load on the drum drive motor 17. The power input to the motor, or alternatively its drive torque, is determined by a transducer 18 as a measure of its mechanical load. The output of 18 is fed to a control device 19. The output of 19 is fed to a regulator device 16 together with a signal from a transducer 15 coupled to a temperature sensor 14. The regulator 16 accordingly operates on a positioning member 20 which adjusts the valve 5 to vary the total quantity of water/unit time delivered to the drum. A riser conduit 6 having upper and lower water level sensing switches 7, 8 respectively functions as a water pressure sensor. The switches 7, 8 in cooperation with a control device 9 operate to maintain the water inlet pressure to the nozzle groups 2, 3, 4 substantially constant between limits defined by the switches. Thus when the pressure is such that water level reaches switch 7, the control device 9 switches in one nozzle group and when the level falls to switch 8 the device 9 switches out a nozzle group. Thereby droplet size is said to be maintained substantially constant irrespective of water quantity being delivered.
