Abstract

1288362 Windscreen wipers S SAITO 14 Jan 1970 [18 Jan 1969] 1791/70 Heading A4F A windscreen wiper device comprises a water collector 2 for mounting on a vehicle, wiper assemblies rotatably mounted on the water collector 2 for drawing semi-circular loci on a windscreen and having rest positions out of the drivers field of view, and driving means for the wiper assemblies. As described two wiper assemblies 7, 7' are mounted to make complete rotations on stub axles 6, 6' driven by flexible shafts 9, 9' from a gearbox 11 attached to electric motor 8. The electric motor drives a first gear-wheel 10 which carries a cam 21 to open a parking switch (22) Figs.3, 6 (not shown) causing the wiper 7 driven from gearwheel 10 to stop in a horizontal position when the motor switch (28) is switched off. Gear-wheel 10 meshes with a gear-wheel 10' which drives the second wiper 7' through a lost motion arrangement of clutch 17 and follower wheel 18 so that the second wiper 7' lags 30 degrees behind the first. When the first gear-wheel 10 stops, a fluid cylinder 26 withdraws arm 25' to engage pin 24 on follower wheel 18 to cause the second wiper 7' to come to a substantially horizontal rest position. The wiper assemblies may be made extensible and retractible into operative and rest positions, Figs. 7 and 8 (not shown).
