Abstract

1288188 Electromagnetic flaw detectors ELEKTROSTALSKY ZAVOD TYAZHELOGO MASHINGSTROENIA 23 March 1971 7794/71 Heading G1N [Also in Division H1] A flaw detector for rolled products and welded tubes includes a pass-through type transducer 6 provided with three individually mounted coaxial coils 3, 4 and 5, coil 3 being connected as an inductor and coils 4, 5 connected differentially. The coils are each a rigid split ring arranged in grooves C, D of two superposed coaxial dielectric ring shaped discs 7, 8 interlinked by four current carrying contact bushes 11, 12, 13, 14 connected, 11, 12 to terminals 15, 16 of the coil 3 and 13, 14 to terminals 17, 18 of the differentially connected coils 4, 5. Discs 7, 8 are mounted in the apparatus by means of contact pins passed through and in electrical contact with the bushes 11, 12, 13, 14, Fig.2 (not shown). A slot B is provided in the lower part of the frame for passing the scale, water and emulsion falling from the rolled products or tubes. In operation the products or tubes are magnetized as they pass through the transducer 6 by means of a D.C. energized coil surrounding the apparatus, Fig.2 (not shown) and coil 3 is energized by an audio frequency signal from a generator Fig.7 (not shown). The output signals from coils 4, 5 modulated by the audio frequency signal and the phase and amplitude of which depend upon the flaws present are fed to an amplitude and phase discriminator and amplified.
