1287980 Wedge and tappet brake actuators GIRLING Ltd 6 Jan 1971 [15 Jan 1970] 1936/70 Heading F2E A brake actuator of the type comprising a pair of axially-opposed tappets 10 with oppositely-inclined adjacent ends 16 between which acts a wedge member 18 movable in a direction normal to the tappet axes to spread the tappets for brake application includes roller means 24 arranged between the wedge member and the inner end of each tappet, the roller means 24 being also arranged in a cage 26 extending over the inner ends of the tappets and the portion of the wedge member 18 between them, the cage including faces parallel to and closely adjoining similar matching faces 14 on the tappets. Thus the tappets, wedge member, roller means and cage can turn about the tappet axis to permit accommodation in differently-shaped housings such as 32, Fig. 3.
