Abstract

1287571 Beta-alumina ceramics ENGLISH ELECTRIC CO Ltd 5 Nov 1969 [5 Aug 1968] 37249/68 Heading C1J Beta-alumina ceramic is obtained by mixing reactive alpha-alumina (defined) with NaOH and CaO and/or MgO, drying and powdering the mixture, shaping, heating to 1550-1700‹ C. at a rate to form beta-alumina, the mixture being isolated from any continuous supply of atmospheric CO 2 during drying and heating. The product should contain 5¢-6% of Na 2 O and 0À1-0À7% CaO. Up to 1% ZrSiO 4 can be added to the alpha-alumina.
