Abstract

1287242 Sewage treatment J C STENGELIN 19 April 1971 [24 Jan 1970] 20515/71 Heading C1C A sewage purification plant is provided with a settling basin connected to a digestion tank or sludge thickener, this tank or thickener containing a sludge separating channel which is fed with sludge water from the basin whereby in this channel the sludge settles from the water and is passed to a sludge collecting tank therebelow. Sludge free sewage may be discharged through an overflow channel at the end of the separating channel. The sludge-free water may be led to a biological purification stage or partly directed back into a preliminary purification stage. A suitable plant is shown in Fig. 4 wherein sludge is pumped from the settling basin 3 to the digestion tank 25. This tank is provided with a sludge separating channel 26 having base portions 27, 28 tapering downwards, their free ends forming the slot 29. Sludge settles through this slot into a sludge collecting tank below.
