Abstract

1287055 Laminated products CURLATOR CORP 4 June 1970 [4 June 1969] 27025/70 Heading B5N [Also in Divisions D1-D2] A resilient air-laid web comprises randomly orientated staple fibres 11<SP>1</SP> and continuous elements 12<SP>1</SP> which are coated with a film of foam 14 which bonds fibres 11<SP>1</SP> to elements 12. The fibres and elements may be animal, vegetable, mineral, and synthetic. A list of fibres is given. The fibres may be curled or crimpled, and shrunk during the heat activation of the binder. The continuous elements 12<SP>1</SP> may be in the form of polyester, cellulose acetate, nylon 6 or spondex polyurethane ribbons, filaments, bundles of aligned fibres, threads, yarns, cords or metal wires. The foamed adhesive coating 14 may be a synthetic rubber, polyurethane formed from a hydroxyl-terminated polyester and a diisocyanate, polyvinyl chloride, plasticized polyvinyl chloride (a list of plasticizer esters is given), polyvinylidine chloride, polyethylene or polystyrene. Thermal stabilizers, and organic and inorganic blowing agents are listed. The continuous elements may be disposed randomly, as warp strands, or as warp and weft strands. In Example 1 a web comprising a blend of polyester and acrylic staple fibres, and randomly orientated multifilament yarns coated with plasticized polyvinylchloride is heated to foam the coating. A transparent polyester, polyethylene, plasticized or unplasticized polyvinyl chloride, polyvinyl acetate, polytetrafluoroethylene, chlorosulphonated polyethylene, halogenated polyethylene, polyamide, cellulose acetate or ethyl cellulose sheet 16, 17 coated on one side with a mixture of butyl rubber and chloronated biphenyl is applied to each side of the cooling mat. Decorative effects are produced by colouring matter in the foam, adhesive or the sheet. Lead, tin, zinc, steel or brass particles may be incorporated in the web, and the surface embossed after lamination, by means of heat and pressure, to produce a sound insulation fabric.
