Abstract

1286928 Grinding FIRTHEOURN Ltd 16 June 1971 28149/71 Heading B3D A device for mounting abrasive wheels 2, 3 on threaded spindles 7 of cutting-off and grinding machines comprises a support flange 4 centrally apertured to receive the machine spindle and provided with a circular peripheral rim 14, and a locking flange 5 centrally threaded, 27, to screw on to the spindle to clamp an abrasive wheel against the rim 13, one side of the locking flange having a first central boss 19 to radially locate a planar abrasive wheel and the other side of the locking flange having a second control boss 18 to radially locate a depressed centre abrasive wheel. The support flange 4 slides on the spindle and has faces 12 for mating with faces 9 on a collar 8, a conical portion 15 extending to the rim 14 and a boss 11 for engaging the central aperture 28 of the depressed centre abrasive wheel 2 which may be a cut-off wheel. The locking flange can be screwthreaded on the spindle so that a conical part 23 extends into the central depressed region of the abrasive wheel 2 and the boss 18 engages the central aperture, the wheel being clamped between the peripheral rims of the locking flange and support flange. To clamp the wheel 3, which may be a cut-off wheel, on the spindle, the locking flange is reversed so that the boss 19 engages the central aperture of that wheel which is again clamped between the peripheral rims of the flanges. In another embodiment, the support flange is screw-threaded on to the spindle.
