The head, arms and legs are each movable with respect to the torso and the torso is subdivided into the upper 22 and lower section 24 which are movable with respect to each other. The head 12 has a concave lower surface 265 which fits on to a convex surface 285 at the top of the neck. Union is achieved by means of coupling 32 which has an upper end 34 inside the head joined via rod 37 to ball and socket joint 44 in the neck. Both torso sections are formed of two halves and the upper section is joined to the lower by means of connector 152. The arm, as shown in Fig. 3, is composed of an insert 70 surrounded by flesh-coloured covering 72 of, for example, vinyl plastics. The insert is divided into two parts, upper arm insert 74 and lower arm insert 76, which are joined together by trunnion 110 on the upper arm insert 74 projecting through hole 112 on the lower arm insert 76, hence providing elbow action. The two inserts are kept engaged by means of elbow retainer 80. The upper insert 74 is bifurcated and both portions 86, 88 are bent into hook shape thus providing a bearing for shoulder pin 78, which has a cross portion 90 which rests in the hooks and a stem portion 92 which extends between the bifurcations 86, 88 to the enlarged end 100 through the slot 102 in the covering material 72. The pin is attached to torso bracket 96 which thus provides a bearing about which the arm may describe a complete circle. The lower arm insert 76 has a tubular portion 114 into which fits wrist insert 116. The insert forms at its lower end a disc 128 to which hand 118 is attached by means of trunnions 130, about which the hand may rotate. Wristturning action is provided by means of insert 116 rotating in tube 114. The legs are attached to the lower torso via axle 116 which has a ball 178 which fits the socket 194 on the upper end of upper leg insert 192. Upper leg insert 192 is linked to the lower leg insert 86 by means of trunnion 190 and the hole 192 which permit knee action. The lower end of the lower leg insert 186 has an eight-sided hole 200 which engages with the four sided peg 204 on foot insert 196. This provides means for adjusting the angle of the foot.
