Abstract

1286321 Coating articles INSTITUT NATIONAL DU VERRE 9 June 1970 [12 June 1969] 29889/69 Headings B2E and B2L A method of applying a liquid coating composition to the bottom surface of an article during displacement thereof along a horizontal path through a coating station comprises discharging vertically upwardly from a nozzle a continuous stream of coating medium which impinges gainst the surface before the stream breaks up, the volume of liquid discharged in a given time being in excess of the volume remaining adherent to the surface in that time. Coating medium is discharged from a slot 2 in tube 1 extending across the width of a sheet to be coated and excess material returns to reservoir 3 and may be heated therein. The coating may be dried by warmed air discharged from nozzles 7, 8. The coating medium may be polyvinyl chloride whether or not additionally chlorinated dissolved in a solvent mixture or a partially polymerised polyester resin and an accelerator and hardener.
