Abstract

128,621. Flower, S. A. Aug. 10, 1917. Aerostats.-In rigid air-ship framework of the kind having circular transverse rim frames braced by radial wires to a central boom and connected together by longitudinal and inclined wires, the radial wires are connected to the rims by means of spiders which can assume any required angle to the radial wires. Specification 125,398 is referred to as an example of the above-mentioned kind of framework. Fig. 1 shows the coupling- member d of a radial wire e connected by a pin c to the centre of a spider comprising three arms a<1>, a<2>, a<3> riveted at their outer ends f to the main members of the transverse frame. Short pieces g for the connexion of longitudinal and inclined wires h', h<2>, h<3>, are also secured to the frames where a spider is fitted. The spider arms may be of U-section as shown, or they may be tubular or built up of wires, and they may be of aluminium, duralumin, or steel &c.
