Abstract
1286194 Air-depolarized cells; fuel cells HITACHI MAXELL Ltd 9 March 1970 [10 March 1969 (2)] 1l084/70 Heading HlB Carbon dioxide is removed from the air supplied to an air-depolarized cell, e.g. a Zn-air cell or a fuel cell using atmospheric oxygen as oxidant and an aqueous alkali metal hydroxide electrolyte, by absorption with alkali metal hydroxide and/or alkaline earth metal hydroxide preferably LiOH, Mg(OH) 2 , Ca(OH) 2 , Ba(OH) 2 , retained in the pores of a porous base material such as a cellulose acetate non-woven mat or a polyamide fibre cloth, which is provided in the air supply passage in the cell. In a fuel cell, Fig. 2, the absorptive material 31 is positioned between the air inlet 30 and oxygen electrode 25, and in a zinc-air cell (Fig. 1, not shown) the absorptive material surrounds the cylindrical cathode.
