128,570. Meyer, C. C. June 17, 1918, [Convention date]. Void [Published under Sect. 91 of the Act]. Forming or shaping.-Buttons or other articles are formed from horn, wood, leather, or artificial compositions such as galalith &c. in a stamping- die comprising upper and lower dies or plungers and an intermediate guide ring or sleeve for the two dies, the three being so connected or arranged that they are drawn apart when the upper die is raised after the stamping operation. As shown, the lower cylindrical die l, c is removably held on a base-plate t by a plate d having an undercut semi-circular recess u from which the die may be withdrawn laterally. An intermediate guide-ring b is movably supported by pins p and slotted links e pivoted at n to the upper die a, k. The parts k, l fit the bore m of the ring b. The upper die is held removably on the end of the plunger i of the press by catches f pivoted in the heads of screws h and pressed by spring pins g to engage the shoulder r of the die and press it against the lower end of the plunger i. In operation, the complete dies are heated before placing in the machine, and when placed in the holder d, the plunger i is lowered to press the button &c., the catches f engaging the upper die so that when the plunger is raised the parts of the die are separated as shown.
