Abstract

1285349 Winding and reeling; breaking FURUKAWA ELECTRIC CO Ltd 26 Nov 1969 [26 Nov 1968 13 Oct 1969] 57853/69 Heading B3E [Also in Division D1] A continuous wire winding apparatus for winding wire consecutively on to two spools, whose shafts are arranged either coaxially or parallel to one another as described in copending Application No. 53926/69, has two electrodes 6, 7 connected to a high voltage source a, b which are positioned so that while the wire is being transferred from one spool to another two of the electrodes contact the wire so as to apply a high voltage short circuit across a small portion of the wire to melt the wire or heat the wire so that it can be cut easily. The electrodes 6, 7 have pointed ends and are set on conductive flexible members 8, 9 so that if both electrodes are not contacted simultaneously, the first contacted electrode can bend to a certain extent. The current supply to the electrodes is varied by having a series of capacitors C 1 , C 2 and C 3 in parallel which can be brought into the circuit by closing switches S 1 , S 2 . The electrodes and capacitors are connected to supply via the secondary side of a transformer T which is provided with a number of connection terminals t 1 , t 2 , t 3 , t 4 so that a voltage suitable for the quality and gauge of the wire to be cut can be selected.
