Abstract

1285182 Electron beam magnetic deflecting apparatus; coils MARCONI CO Ltd 19 Nov 1969 [8 April 1969] 17776/69 Headings HlD and HIP A magnetic deflecting coil for a cathode-ray tube comprises at least two layers of conductors on insulating substrates, one layer being adapted to form two deflecting coils and the other layer being adapted to connect the two coils in series. In Fig. 1 copper coils 5 and 6 each 0-007 inches thick are printed in cosinusoidal form on a glass epoxy resin substrate 4 0À002 inches thick, and a similar pair of coils 8 and 9 are printed on a substrate 7. An intermediate layer 2 is provided with conductors 10 and 11 each 0-0015 inches thick which are adapted respectively to connect in series the coils 5 and 6, and the coils 8 and 9 by means of plated through hole connections. The conductors 10 and 11 may alternatively be printed on the back of substrate 4. The two pairs of coils shown are adapted to deflect along the same axis and may be energized in push-pull. This assembly together with a second assembly for deflection along another axis may be wrapped round a former comprising a tube of synthetic resin bonded paper of 0-02 inches wall thickness; a cylinder of core material is slid over the coils and the deflection yoke is located on the neck of the cathode-ray tube and "potted" by covering with a hard-setting insulating material. When the two deflection axes must be accurately located, as in a camera tube, each coil may be on a separate square substrate (Fig. 3, not shown) which is provided in its centre with locating eyelets adapted to engage locating pins on the former. In this arrangement the centre layer 2 has connection tabs to which coil connections may be made by means of wires.
