Abstract
128,376. Smith, W. S., Child, S., and Kenworthy, J. June 17, 1918. Driving pumps; packing drums &c.-In a pump for petrol &c. the stationary element of the pump is connected by means of a flexible tube to a member engaging the means adapted to operate the movable element and forming with the tube a closed envelope for the operative connexion between the movable element and the driving element, so that there is no rotational motion between the tube, the member, and the stationary element. In one form the rotor 2 of the pump is driven by a bent shaft 1, the end of which engages a cup-shaped member 9 revolubly mounted in a socket 10 in a crank 5 of the driving shaft 6, and the flexible tube 8 extends from the bearing 3 to the member 9, thus forming a closed envelope for the shaft 1 to prevent leakage. A tubular member 11 encloses the mechanism. In another form the axis of the socket 5 is parallel to the axes of the shafts, and the shaft 1 is cranked in the middle.
