Abstract
128,365. Levy, E. B. June 14, 1918. Ordnance, built - up; wire-ribbon; design.-Relates to built-up guns comprising an inner bore tube surrounded by longitudinal segment bars, and consists in clamping the bars bv a number of separate and unconnected two-part clamping- bands at intervals along the gun. Figs. 1 and 5 show a barrel tube 10 surounded by longitudinal segmental members of stepped cylindrical or tapered formation held in place by clamping-bands 12, the barrel being first covered in known manner by a non-conducting substance 13 such as asbestos or mineral wool. The clamping-bands have projections 21 engaging recesses in some of the segments to prevent displacement. The barrel may be reinforced by winding wire thereon. Clamping-bands of uniform size may be employed with distance-rings to suit the stepping. In a modification, shown in plan in Fig. 3, the segments are tapered without being stepped, and are held together by tapered sleeves 30 adjusted towards the breech-member 14<a> by upper and lower screwed rods 31.
