1283488 Baling presses LINDEMANN MASCHINENFABRIK GmbH 8 July 1970 [30 July 1969] 33202/70 Heading B5F A baling press comprises a pressing box 8 movable from a position under a pre-compacting plunger 4 and the outlet 7 of a feed channel 14, to a position under a final compacting plunger 3, retainer fingers 10 pivoted at 13 to be swung in and out during a baling cycle and held outwardly during final compacting, and control means arranged so that before the pro-compacting plunger 4 has begun its first stroke the fingers 10 are held in an outward position and do not swing inwards again until the feed channel 14 has been completely emptied. The fingers 10 are pivoted outwardly against the action of springs 21 when a piston 28 moves an actuator 29 downwardly into engagement with rollers 20 on arms 19 fixed to the shafts 13. The fingers are held in this position by catch levers 23 pivoted at 24 and carrying rollers 32 engaged by faces 31 of a cam 30 fixed to piston 28. The catch levers 23 engage catches 26 fixed to shaft 13. The catches are released by a sideways thrust applied to the fingers 10 by the material being baled, this thrust swinging the fingers further outwards and so releasing the catches. A flap 16 (Fig. 7) pivoted at 15 closes the feed channel 14 during downward movement of the plunger 4 and is controlled by a photo-cell 34. The plunger 4 has slots in its side walls through which the fingers 10 can pass. Two pressing boxes 8 can be provided for rotation about a vertical axle 9.
