Abstract

1282499 Sulphur from H 2 S AMOCO PRODUCTION CO 18 Nov 1969 [10 Feb 1969] 56493/69 Heading C1A Sulphur is obtained from a gas stream containing at least 45 mole per cent H 2 S, whose feed rate is less than 30% design; by dividing the gas stream such that one third is mixed with hydrocarbon fuel (equivalent to up to 20% of the H 2 S design feed rate), burning this mixture to CO 2 , H 2 O, and SO 2 , mixing these combustion products with the remainder of the H 2 S gas stream, and converting the H 2 S and SO 2 in the resulting mixture to sulphur by a known process. This recovery process is preferably catalytic, and the hydrocarbon fuel is preferably natural gas.
