[Also in Division B1] Hydrogen is made by the Shift reaction in the presence of a catalyst made by reducing a CuO-ZnO mixture with a gas non-reactive under reducing conditions containing an amount of hydrogen and/or carbon monoxide sufficient to form an exothermic reaction, but insufficient 'to raise the temperature above 343‹ C. and maintaining a temperature not exceeding 343‹ C. by controlling the exothermic reaction in response to the quantity of reducing gas stream, until the reducing gas content in the exit stream is about equal to that in the inlet stream subjected to the catalyst.
