Abstract
1282389 Mixing gas with liquid PROCEDES SEM 17 Sept 1970 [17 Sept 1969] 44505/70 Heading B1C A gas (ozone) is mixed with a liquid (water) in a vessel a containing an annular partition c, by an impeller h which crushes the bubbles o rising from a perforated or porous gas inlet member n into smaller bubbles which are entrained in the downward flow from the impeller. The liquid is introduced through an inlet g and is dribbled over the top f1 of the partition in a lamellar flow so as not to entrain stray gas. The gas may be vented at j. Liquid may be by-passed at k. The partition may be conical adjacent the impeller. The outlet may be at the bottom of the apparatus, and connected to a long relatively narrow tube leading to an overflow outlet. Alternatively, the vessel a may open into a chamber containing horizontal baffles and which communicates with an overflow outlet and the inflow to the vessel a. Hydrophobic and hydrophilic components may be separated at the liquid-gas interfaces, and chemical or biochemical reactions may occur between the gas and liquid.
