Abstract

1281731 Cycle frame RALEIGH INDUSTRIES Ltd 28 May 1970 [25 June 1969] 32005/69 Heading B7E A rigid cycle frame comprises two moulded matched side shells 10 and 11 of plastics material, for example fibre-glass reinforced polyester resin, secured together in opposed relation so as to provide openings for components to be fitted to the frame and provide at least a main frame member 13, a head tube 12 and a seat tube 14. Each side shell also includes a back stay 15, a curved external rib 20 and ribs 19 to provide stiffening. The main frame member 13 has a hollow space 13c defined between double walls 13a and 13b provided for cables. Metal or plastics inserts 25a may be provided to prevent wear on the ends of head tube 12 and metal rear wheel spindle receiving elements 22 and an annular sleeve 27 for a pedal crank spindle are attached to the side shells during the moulding operation. Semi-circular recesses 24 (Fig. 10, not shown) in each side shell form a circular hole 24a for the mounting member of a prop stand, (not shown). Removable panels 28a enable space 28 to be used as a receptacle for objects such as tools. The side shells may be modified so that each one includes part of a luggage carrier and part of a mudguard.
