Abstract
1281706 Optical scanning SAAB-SCANIA A B 25 Aug 1969 [28 Aug 1968] 42249/69 Heading G2J A system provides spiral track scanning of flat objects. In the arrangement shown, light from a film 8 is directed along a path 31 by semi-reflecting mirrors, and it is then intercepted by a slot 34 in a rotating periscope body 22. The light then proceeds to an inclined mirror 30 which rotates with the body 22, and from there to a further rotating reflecting device, e.g. a mirror (not illustrated) or a prism (35) Fig. 2 (not shown), which reflects the light into a fixed optical fibre 36 for transit to a detector (37). The position of the further reflecting device is adjusted along the axis 31 by means of a motor 25 and spindle 26, and by moving uniformly along the axis relative to the cone swept out by the mirror 30 a spiral scanning track is effectively followed on the film 8. Further apertures (71) Fig.4 (not shown) are provided to provide selection of the scanning area. The object 8 may also be optically projected as in Fig. 1 for viewing at 16, or may be viewed by a T.V. camera 17.
