Abstract

1281357 Gas recovery WELLMAN-POWER GAS Inc 25 Aug 1969 [5 Sept 1968] 42188/69 Heading C1A Gaseous hydrogen fluoride is removed from a gas containing it by passing the gas through a support material comprising alumina particles whose surface is coated with from 4 to 30 parts by weight of potassium hydroxide and/or sodium hydroxide per 100 parts of alumina. The alumina particles are preferably 1 to 20 mesh particles of activated alumina and are preferably coated with a monomolecular layer of the hydroxide. The gas is preferably at a temperature of 15 to 70‹ C. and the support material is preferably a bed of particles from 1 to 8 inches deep. An installation for carrying out the above process comprises an air vent, Fig. 1, including the support material positioned in the vent to contact the gas containing the HF as it passes through the vent.
