Abstract
1281333 Antiskid brake systems SMITHS INDUSTRIES Ltd 25 July 1969 [29 July 1968] 36096/68 Heading F2F A brake control apparatus for a vehicle comprising a generator 1 producing a signal at a frequency proportional to the angular velocity of a braked wheel of a vehicle; a circuit responsive to the signal to produce an output signal having a frequency dependent on the frequency of said generator signal, includes an auxiliary circuit arranged to adjust the output signal whenever a rate of change of frequency indicating deceleration of the vehicle exceeds a predetermined rate and means sensitive to the adjusted signal to produce a brake release signal. The output signal of generator 1 is fed to a squarer 2 which produces complementary output waveforms A, A and of which signal A is fed to a diode /transistor pump 3 producing an output D.C. signal the amplitude of which is proportional to the frequency of the output of generator 1 and which responds rapidly to changes of frequency of the signal fed to it. The output signal of the diode /transistor pump 3 is fed to a circuit 4 including a capacitor which is discharged in dependence on the output signal of the diode/transistor pump 3 and which is connected in series with a circuit which limits the rate at which the potential across the capcitor can change during deceleration of the vehicle so that when the vehicle decelerates at above a predetermined rate the output signal of circuit 4 lags that of circuit 3, the said output signal of circuit 4 being fed to a variable width monostable 5 to control the width of its output pulses B, B<SP>1</SP>. Outputs A, A<SP>1</SP>, B, B<SP>1</SP> are fed to AND gates 7, 8 the outputs of which are fed to a bi-stable controlling a power switch 6 which operates the brake release.
