Abstract
1281117 Electro-machining GES FUER KERNFORSCHUNG mbH 26 March 1970 [2 April 1969] 14665/70 Heading C7B In electro-machining internal grooves in a pipe 1 for a nuclear fuel cover, an electrode 3 is used comprising a frusto-conical body of insulating material e. g. plastic tapering in the direction A of relative movement, with which the working surface 8 along its entire length forms an angle of α of less than 90 degrees, and a metal layer applied to e.g. evaporated on to the surface but interrupted by longitudinal grooves 10 in the body, their width and depth corresponding to the mutual clearance of the grooves to be machined and the inside diameter of the pipe respectively. Electrolyte B is forced under pressure through the narrow gap 6 between the electrode and pipe. The metal layer may be connected through a pin 9 to a shaft 4 driven by a feed unit 5. Helical grooves may be produced on the pipe by superposing a rotary movement on the feed movement of the electrode. The angle α may increase gradually or in stages in a direction opposite to that of A.
