Abstract

1280340 Copying machines XEROX CORP 22 Dec 1969 [26 Dec 1968 62309/69 Heading G2A A means for attaching the leading edge of a sheet 30 to a rotating drum conveyer 17 forming part of a copying machine comprises a longitudinal slot in which is located a bar 20 having a lip portion 21, the bar normally being biased radially inwards so that the front edge of sheet 30 is gripped between the lip 21 and the surface of the drum as seen in Fig. 4. The bar is biased inwards by means of springs 23, which pass through holes in the bar and whose ends engage the drum. Lever arms 25 are pivotally mounted one at each end of the drum, each lever arm having a cam surface 28 at one end and a flat part 29 at the other end. When a door 31 is in the closed position, Fig. 3 (not shown), lever arms 25 pivot downwards so that the cam surfaces are clear of rod 20. The rod is thus spring-urged downwards so that lip 21 lies flush in a correspondingly shaped recess in the surface of drum 17. When the door 31 is partly opened, to about 70 degrees as in Fig.4, the cam surfaces are partly raised because of the engagement of end 33 of door 31 with the flat ends 29 of the levers 25. As the rotation of drum 17 brings bar 20 to the topmost position shown, it engages a stop (24) Fig.2 (not shown) which stops the drum. If the door 31 is now completely opened, as in Fig. 5, the cam surfaces 28 are brought into contact with rod 20, pushing it upwards and lifting lip 21 clear of the drum surface. The leading edge of sheet 30 can now be inserted below the raised lip, as in Fig. 5, and when door 31 is closed again rod 20 is released to retract inwards, so that the edge of the sheet is now firmly gripped between lip 21 and drum 17, as seen in Fig.4.
