Abstract
1280302 Power steering BENDIBERICA SA 22 Sept 1969 46603/69 Heading B7H In a servo steering device of the type having a toothed slidable member 5 acting as a piston with opposed unequal pressure areas, the steering shaft 2 is acted on, in one direction of steering only, by a piston 39 to cause the steering faces applied by the servo fluid to the member 5 to be equalized for both directions of steering. The piston 39 acts on the shaft 2 via bearings 25, and, in the neutral a straight ahead position of the member 5 and hence shaft 2, abuts a stop 40a whereby the shaft 2 does not experience the action of the piston over one half of the range of movement of the latter. The device includes an axially shiftable valve sleeve 4 for controlling servo fluid flow. Piston 39 is constantly pressurized with fluid entering the device. The device also includes a pressure limiting device (Fig. 2, not shown) which can operate either as a by-pass valve in the instance of a pressure overload, or as a one-way valve permitting cessation of steering assistance, in case of hydraulic failure, and mechanical steering only.
