Abstract
1279784 Spatial filters INTERNATIONAL BUSINESS MACHINES CORP 23 April 1971 [27 April 1970] 10905/71 Heading G2J A method of manufacturing a complex-valued spatial filter having desired magnitude and phase modulation characteristics for modulating an incident light beam in order to produce in said beam a required image field comprises, determining the required magnitude and phase variations of said light beam, determining the exposure required by a first photo-sensitive medium in order to provide said magnitude variations and the exposure required by a second photo-sensitive medium in order to provide said phase variations, exposing said first photo-sensitive medium to the required exposure with subsequent development in order to provide a first filter portion having said desired magnitude modulation characteristics and exposing the second photo-sensitive medium to the required exposure with subsequent development in order to provide a second filter portion having the desired phase modulation characteristics and optically combining the two filter portions to form the complex spatial filter with the desired magnitude and phase characteristics. A plotter may be used to define the exposures in each elemental area of the media. The magnitude and phase variations may be determined from a diffraction pattern of the object required to be produced by the filter.
