Abstract

1,227,151. Holography. PHILIPS ELECTRONIC & ASSOCIATED INDUSTRIES Ltd. Aug.2, 1968 [Aug. 5, 1967], No.37023/68. Heading G2J. A method of forming an array of images 15 of an illuminated or light-emitting object 11 comprises producing a hologram 14 of a point array corresponding to the desired spatial distribution which hologram is used as an image-forming means, and reconstructing the hologram with light from the object 11 or an image 12 of the object. In the reconstruction the object 11, or its image 12, is disposed at the same location relative to the hologram as was the light source used to form the hologram. The hologram is produced by passing a reference beam of coherent light through a pin-hole diaphragm defining the point array, and interfering the spherical waves resulting with a reference beam of coherent light on a suitable recording medium. By making the reconstructing beam an information carrying beam the information in the beam is superimposed on the real image produced with a minimum of defects. In forming the hologram the reference beam may be incident upon the recording medium either from the same or the opposite side to the object beam. The invention is applicable to forming multiple images of integrated circuits on semi-conductor wafers. The object 11 may itself be a hologram, e.g. a phase hologram. The wavelength used to produce the hologram may be the same as or different from that used to form the image array.
