Abstract

127,897. Rey, J. June 16, 1917. Mines, marine.-Relates to mines adapted to sink to the bottom with their anchors when launched, and then to rise to the desired depth under the control of a hydrostatic device carried by the mine. According to the invention, the hydrostatic device is released and allowed to fall away after the mooring operation is completed; and when the drum for the mooring-cable is carried by the mine, this drum is simultaneously released and dropped. In the form shown in Fig. 1, the mooring-drum B and the hydrostatic device F are both carried by a member E which is attached by a bolt D to the mine A. When the mine rises from its anchor K and reaches the desired depth, the mooring-cable I is clutched by jaws G controlled by the hydrostatic device; the bolt D is then released, allowing the member E to fall, while the jaws G are held to the mine by a short length of cable T attached to the mine at H. The bolt D is pulled by a spring N when released by a soluble plug 0, as shown in Fig. 5; or the bolt D is pulled by the short length of cable T. In modifications, the cable drum is on the anchor, for example as described in Specification 13807/13.
