1278034 Methyl ketonie compounds LABOFINA SA 9 Dec 1970 [18 May 1970] 23897/70 Heading C2C Monoketones of general formula are produced by oxidation with O 2 in the liquid phase at 20-120‹ C. in the presence of a cobalt salt of a compound of formula wherein n= 1-16, Y<SP>1</SP>=H, X, CN, CO 2 R, OCOR and X= halogen and R = C 1-6 hydrocarbyl, and Y<SP>2</SP> = CX 3 when Y<SP>1</SP> = H or X and Y<SP>2</SP> = CHX 2 when Y<SP>1</SP>=X, the cobalt salt has a Co(III)/Co(total) ratio of 0À5-1À0 based on metal cobalt, and the concentration of the cobalt salt being at least 0À05 mole per litre of reaction mixture.
