1277619 Drying endless belts THUNES MEKANISKE VAERKSTED AS 10 Oct 1969 [11 Oct 1968] 49753/69 Heading F4G [Also in Division D1] A stretching, drying and heat-setting apparatus for a felt or wire-cloth for a paper machine comprises at least two rolls 3, 4 normally mounted at each of their respective ends and capable of movement towards and away from each other on tracks 1, 2; a drying box 16, 17; and a cantilever support means 24, 25 for each roll 3, 4 arranged so as to extend transversely over the tracks and being provided at its free end with support members 27, 28 operable to temporarily support one shaft journal of each roll 3, 4 when, for example, a felt 23 is introduced. The respective ends of a drive roll 3, driven by a motor 15, are mounted in a fixed bearing 5 and a carriage 6 which runs on the track 2. A stretch roll 4 is mounted on carriages 7, 8 which are movable on the tracks 1, 2 by motors 13, 14 and which are each provided with a guide 9 for a bearing block 10 in which the respective roll shaft journal is mounted. The endless web 23 is stretched by locking the carriages 7, 8 to the tracks 1, 2 and moving the blocks 10 in the guides 9 by means 11, 12. The upper part 16 of the drying box is mounted on supports 18, 19, Fig. 3, movable on tracks 20, 21. The drying box is connected to a hot air unit 22. Two strong cantilevers 24, 25 are cemented to the floor and extend across the entire width of the web 23 to the track 2 where the free ends are interconnected by a plate 26 having two arms 27, 28. Power members (not shown) tension the free ends of the cantilevers 24, 25 downwardly. The lower part 17 of the drying box is suspended in the cantilever 24, 25. In operation, to remove a stretched and heat treated web 23, the carriages 7, 8 are moved towards the drying box so that the roll 4 lies in the position of Fig. 2. The tension on the cantilevers 24, 25 and the part 17 is released so that the arms 27, 28 contact the shaft journals of the rolls 3, 4. The carriages 6, 8 are disconnected from their respective shaft journals, and are moved away to the left and right respectively, of Fig. 1. The part 16 is driven away along the tracks 20, 21 and the web 23 is drawn directly out and a new web positioned.
