Abstract

1277128 Operating clutches DR HERMANN E MULLER 21 Nov 1969 [25 Nov 1968] 57029/69 Heading F2L A motor vehicle clutch release bearing assembly includes a swash ring 3 abutting the clutch actuating levers 1, or diaphragm-spring fingers, and mounted on the release sleeve 7 through a ball bearing 10 to allow self-alignment and ensure equal loading of the levers 1 should one be standing proud of the others. As shown, the ring 3 forms a cylinder for a piston 5, and contains a liquid plastics material 4, the piston 5 abutting the inner race 9 of the bearing 10. The outer race of the bearing is fast on the sleeve 7. Again, Fig. 2 (not shown), the piston 5 is formed integral with the inner race. Alternatively, Fig. 3 (not shown), the ring 3 may be mounted on the outer race of bearing 10 by plastics balls (32) and a ring (33) to allow its tilting movement, the inner race being formed integral with sleeve 7. In Figs. 3 and 4 (not shown), the ring 3 is mounted by a rubber ring on an intermediate member (34) abutting the sleeve 7. The rubber ring has three long thin axial projections (43) and three short fat axial projections (42) to provide increasing resistance to tilting of ring 3. Again, Fig. 5, (not shown), the ring 3 is connected to the member 34 by an annular liquid-filled bellows.
