Abstract

1277018 Mounting preset tools DUNLOP HOLDINGS Ltd 11 Aug 1969 [17 May 1968 15 Nov 1968] 29003/69 and 54263/68 Heading B3T In a machine tool of the kind having a cutting tool and a rotatable work-holding spindle, which is specifically for use with preset tools, there is provided a changer plate 1 which is secured to a tool holding structure of the machine and is provided with two angularly inclined locating surfaces 5 which extend parallel to the axis of the machine spindle. A cutting tool which is pre-set with respect to its holder is provided with surfaces corresponding to those on the changer plate 1 and is secured thereon by clamping means. The tool holder is provided with an abutment surface which engages a corresponding abutment surface on the changer plate whereby a preset tool is located in its precise position on the machine tool and ready for use without further adjustment. In the embodiments described, the preset tool 19 is attached to the changer plate by way of an adapter plate 20 which permits locating of the cutting tool in alternative orientations with respect to the changer plate. The adapter plate 20 is for use with an alternative form of changer plate which has a projection 12 providing angularly inclined locating surfaces 25. The plate 20 has two rectangular holes 21, 22 one of which carries a tool holder and the other is locatable on the projection 12. In an alternative embodiment the adapter plate 29 has substantially circular holes 31 and which are provided with inserts 32 with flats 33 which co-operate with the corresponding surfaces on a tool holder and projection 12 respectively, a further recess 30a being provided in each respective hole 31 for the reception of a wedge clamping bolt assembly, Fig 11 (not shown).
